Professor Maya B. Herrera is core faculty of the Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (EXCELL). She teaches finance, risk management, corporate valuation, leadership and human resources management. She is Program Director of the Institute’s Strategic Finance, Finance for Senior Executives and Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Programs.
She served as Treasurer of the AIM Scientific Research Foundation (AIM-SRF), the Institute’s endowment arm, and has held the post of Chief Financial Officer of AIM.
Prof. Herrera has been in the training and consulting field since 1989. She provides both technical advice in the areas of finance, strategy and human resources as well as on-the-ground facilitation, training and executive coaching services.
Prof. Herrera is Managing Director of Solutions Incorporated, a management consulting firm that specializes in providing actuarial services, technical advice to financial security companies, employee benefits advice, and strategic human resources consulting. With her partners and associates in Solutions Inc., and Milliman
Global, she provides consulting in the fields of strategic planning, advice for financial institutions, strategic finance, strategic measuring, enterprise-wide risk management, strategic human resources planning, total compensation design, managed health care, and actuarial services.
Prior to joining AIM, Prof. Herrera was the Chief Financial Officer and Actuary of the Manufacturer’s Life Insurance Company’s Philippine office. She was practice leader of the health care, group and risk management practices of The Wyatt Company
(Philippines) – now Watson Wyatt. She has held general management posts in other industries including computer software, personal care manufacturing and marketing.
Prof. Herrera is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines and has served in various capacities in its Board of Governors. She is on the Board of Milliman Global.
She holds a PhD in Organization Development (2009), a Master’s degree in Actuarial Mathematics from the University of Michigan (1982), and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Cum Laude) from the University of the Philippines (1981). She is a member of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines and the International Actuarial Association.
